This Brilliant IKEA Bag Hack Is A Life Saver For All Brides-To-Be
Finding love seems like it should be easier than ever these days, doesn’t it? We have so many options to find exactly what we’re looking for. You can make a dating profile on a million different sites and apps laying out exactly what you’re looking for. Yet, it’s all these options that makes finding love harder than ever. So when you find someone that you can see yourself spending the rest of your life with, it’s a pretty big deal.
When you delete all those apps, you know you’ve found the one. However, that’s when a whole new series of difficulties arise. While getting engaged is an exciting time, it’s full of all sorts of stresses. But once you get to the wedding, that’s when you get to just relax and enjoy it, right? Yeah… we wish. Turns out there are all sorts of hidden perils waiting to make a nightmare out of your wedding day. Luckily, there are brilliant solutions to help you avoid them…
Weddings can be downright magical, can’t they? When you attend the wedding of a friend or family member it’s easy to get swept up in the joy of them.
However, if you’ve ever planned a wedding, you know that isn’t magic: it’s months and months of hard, stressful and expensive work.
You have to meticulously plot out every minute and element of the ceremony and reception. Guest lists, flowers, dinner options and even what type of table cloth are all agonizingly designed.
Of course, possibly the most important element of any wedding that includes a bride is her dress.
It’s stereotypical, but many girls dream about their wedding day from the time they’re very young, and the dress is likely the first image they have in mind.
So picking out the right one is absolutely crucial. You have to go from store to store, trying on several until you finally find the one that fits your style, dreams and also your budget.
So Far, So good
Okay, so you got the RSVPs, you’re at the site of your wedding and you’re in your dress.
Everything is shockingly going according to plan. Dare you tempt fate by hoping that you getting hitched will go off without a hitch?
The family members from both sides of the family have arrived on time, and even more shocking, are actually getting along! Heck, this wedding business is easier than you thought. But still, you’re a bit nervous, and what happens when you’re nervous?
You have to go to the bathroom. It’s no big deal. Heck, there was even a child’s book called Everyone Poops.
It’s totally natural, and it’s also smart. You have a big couple of hours ahead of you, so you want to make sure you’re prepared and don’t have any distractions.
But of course, your bladder makes all the rules. And on this big day, it may be working overtime due to your nerves. And that leads to a problem you didn’t think of until now…
Going In Your Dress
Your wedding dress is possibly going to be the most important and expensive dress you ever wear.
You took a ton of time (and spent a ton of money) to look your absolute best in it. So when you have to use the bathroom, that becomes a Broadway level production.
This picture kind of says it all, doesn’t it? You can’t take off your entire dress every time you need to go. But when you have to go, you have to go.
A Little Help
What can you do? Luckily, you have a wedding party with you, designated to help in emergencies.
However, even though they’re your closest friends, asking a bridesmaid to hold your dress up as you pee? That can be pretty embarrassing.
This picture demonstrates true friendship, but it also demonstrates a situation no one should ever have to be put in. And we’re talking about both people in this picture. But when you’re all decked out in your dress, what other options are there?
Wait… what the heck is this doing here? Did this image get crossed over from some other article? No, dear reader.
We take great care and diligence with our pieces, so rest assured that we meant to put a picture of furniture giant IKEA right here.
Why? Because IKEA is going to be the savior to all you brides-to-be who are now nervous about what you’re going to do when you need to use the bathroom on your wedding day.
So what’s the trick? Do you need to assemble some elaborate piece of furniture before your big day?
Or are meatballs involved? Please tell us meatballs are involved. Well, they can be, but that’s completely optional and up to you.
All you need for this is an IKEA bag and… wait, no “and.” That’s literally it. A bride named Tina got married in May of 2018 and shared this amazing, simple and inexpensive trick she did that made her life easier, and it will make yours simpler, too.
It’s just a few simple steps. First, get yourself an IKEA bag and then fold it in half.
Next, cut in the middle of the bag’s bottom. But be careful, as the hole must not be too big. It’s better to cut a smaller hole and to enlarge it a bit later.
It must be close to your body if you want it to work. Every body is different, so exact measurements won’t do you good. Adjust as you need to.
There You Have It
Once you have the hole as big as you need, bring it with you and have a bridesmaid keep it in your wedding bag on the big day.
To use, step inside the bag, place your feet in the hole, lift and put the large handles on your shoulders.
If your hips do not fit through the hole, simply enlarge it a little bit. Emphasis on “a little bit.” Remember: the closer it is to your body, the better it will work.
Tina even gave some important pointers, noting that you don’t need to remove your shoes while using this.
Also, be sure to step into the hole with your entire dress and not the bag itself, otherwise you risk making a mess.
In use, it should look like this. Now you have your hands free to grab toilet paper, adjust your underwear or do whatever else you need to. Finally, brides can now actually get some privacy on their wedding day.
Fun fact: “IKEA” and “Idea” are just one letter apart. Speaking of which, how did Tina come up with this?
She explained, “Well, I got married a few weeks ago (in a mermaid wedding dress) and I was really worried about going to the bathroom and not being able to … handle myself.
Someone helping or watching me going to the bathroom on my wedding day? Not being able to have free hands to use the toilet paper? Or even worse if my period decides to show? NO WAY!”
Make Life Easier
She also points out that there are products on the market to help with this, but they are needlessly expensive.
“Some stuff like this bridal bathroom helper exists but are expensive just because it is wedding related.
My bridal bathroom helper hack costs about 0.80 euro ($0.90 USD) and I did it the day before my wedding. It took only three minutes. What I like best is it’s almost free and allows me to make my life easier on my wedding day.”
Other past brides chimed in with their own advice, and after reading what they have to say, you’ll be an even bigger believer in the bag.
One woman wrote, “I’ve been advised that it is easier when wearing a wedding dress to use the loo facing backwards!
May need someone to hold up the skirt but possibly a little more private.”
Another said that she just went back to the hotel and removed her entire dress, and only had to do it a few times since she doesn’t drink. Yeah… just grab a bag.
Enjoy Your Big Day
Another woman chimed in, echoing the sentiment of sitting on the toilet backwards while in a wedding dress.
“My dress was huge with a very long train. I was commando for the reception and … I didn’t have any help once to go to the loo.”
If you’ve been dreaming of your wedding day, sitting on the toilet backwards likely wasn’t on your vision board. Go ahead and thank IKEA and Tina for this trick, as it will make your special day easier and way, way less gross.
