In Honor Of ‘Harold And Kumar,’ White Castle Pledges To Give Away 1 Million Free Sliders
Have you ever heard that marketing campaign that asks what you’d do for a Klondike Bar? The premise is that the chocolate-y cool treat is so delicious and irresistible that consumers will happily humiliate and degrade themselves or even potentially put themselves in danger of bodily harm just to get one. Honestly? It’s a great marketing campaign, but not at all treat. We have a sweet tooth and think Klondike Bars are okay and all, but past paying $1.39 for one, we’re not willing to do much more to procure the thing.
Hamburgers on the other hand? That’s an entirely different story. While Klondike Bars are good, there’s only so many ways to have one. You have the chocolate casing and the cool filling. Maybe change a flavor or two, and you’ve officially exhausted the extent of options. But hamburgers? They’re a blank canvas that will never run out of new creations for it. People are willing to do much more to get one, but luckily, thanks to this insane promotion, you may not have to…
Whether they’re gigantic or miniature, hamburgers may just be the perfect food. They’re like sandwiches, only better.
Also, they don’t get ruined as often as sandwiches tend to. Seriously, people ruining sandwiches is a whole thing, but back to hamburgers!
Wimpy from Popeye was always trying to say he’d gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today. Jimmy Buffet even composed a ballad to how they’re the best thing to eat while in paradise. But what’s your favorite type of burger?
If you live in or around the Midwest, then there’s a high likelihood that you named White Castle as your favorite hamburger.
Yes, it may not be gourmet or anything, but it just has a way of satisfying every last burger craving you could ever have.
Yes, their signature slider may be tiny, but you know what that means? You can eat even more of them! This little piece of heaven was even named as the most influential burger of all time by Time magazine.
'Harold And Kumar'
And even though White Castles are currently only located in 13 of the United States, everyone knows about them.
How is this chain so influential and so popular? It may have something to do with the fact that they were immortalized on the big screen.
And while McDonald’s and Burger King may have shameless cameos in countless films, they’ve never had one devoted to them exclusively. White Castle on the other hand? Enter Harold And Kumar, and the rest is history.
Going To White Castle
If you haven’t seen Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, you need to remedy that issue as soon as possible.
It’s possibly one of if not the greatest stoner comedies of all time. And yes, that may not sound like a high (ha ha ha) bar to clear, but this movie is different.
Not only is it overflowing with lowbrow hilarity, but it is also surprisingly sweet and full of heart, and its two leads are insanely likable in their epic quest.
And what was their quest? Well, it’s literally in the title, silly. They just wanted to get some hamburgers.
However, this proved more difficult than anyone could have imagined. Along the way, they had to deal with a number of perilous obstacles.
They braved cheetahs, hang gliding mishaps and even a drugged-out Neil Patrick Harris, all to get to the sliders that they craved. The movie was basically just a giant, hilarious commercial for the burger chain, but we aren’t complaining.
Want to feel old? July 30, 2019 marked 15 years since Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle hit theaters.
It holds up amazingly well in the decade and a half since its release. You know what else holds up?
That craving you get for White Castle sliders after watching the film. Luckily, you won’t have to go through a life-altering adventure to get your hands on the grub. In fact, getting these delicious little meaty treats into your belly is easier than ever.
Remember the old, dark days where when you wanted food you had to go out and get it yourself?
We don’t mean the days of having to hunt and farm for your meals. We mean like 10 years ago where delivery services weren’t yet a thing.
But now we have services like Uber Eats. You tell them what they want, and their helpful drivers will pick it up and deliver it to you. And recently, Uber Eats teamed up with White Castle for an unbelievable deal.
One Million Free Sliders
Nobody loves Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle more than White Castle, and they decided to celebrate the film’s 15th anniversary.
They partnered with Uber Eats and pledged to give away one million of their signature sliders for free!
The chain has revealed that they will offer customers a free 10 sack, containing 10 original sliders, with every order made through the Uber Eats app using the promo code “1MILLIONSLIDERS.” Delivery fees will still apply, but this is nothing to sneeze at!
If only this technology and this offer were available in 2004. Our heroes wouldn’t have even had to leave the house to get their food.
That means that the raccoon wouldn’t have caused them to crash and cause unimaginable financial and emotional damage to the duo.
Then again, if this did exist back then, then we wouldn’t have gotten to see Harold and Kumar go on their wild ride that we still love to this day, so maybe that’s for the best.
Remember the exact order that each of the protagonists placed once they finally arrived at the White Castle at the end of the movie?
If you’re having a hard time (15 years is a long, long time) remembering, allow us to remind you.
They each got 30 sliders, 5 large fries and four large drinks. Harold opted for Cherry Coke while Kumar got Diet Cokes. Well, you can have this delivered to you, and 10 of the burgers will be free! Just… maybe have some friends around to help you consume all this.
It's For Real
This sounds too good to be true and is likely a hoax, right? Well, apparently not, according to Jonathan Maze, executive editor with Restaurant Business Magazine.
He confirmed on his Twitter on July 30, 2019 that, “White Castle now has delivery through Uber Eats.
And it is tying it to the 15th anniversary of Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle by giving away free sliders next month. Poor Harold and Kumar apparently had their pot-fueled slider craving 15 years too early.”
Better Get Cooking
A million sliders? That’s a heck of a lot of hamburger. Hopefully those poor cooks won’t be overworked.
If you’re going to take advantage of this offer, you better act fast. It will only last until they’ve given away a million sliders or August 31st, whichever comes first.
Considering how crazy of a deal this is, we have a feeling it won’t last the full month of August. Hopefully whoever’s keeping count will lose their place and have to start the whole offer over again.
Crunching The Numbers
So how much are you actually saving when you take advantage of the 10 free White Castle sliders offer?
Well, a sack of sliders costs about $7.30 each, so use those savings to get yourself even more grub while you’re ordering. There isn’t much of a catch, but there is one slight thing to be aware of.
According to Insider , they report that, “While there’s no minimum purchase for the deal, a “small order fee” may apply if you place an order costing less than $10.”
By the way, if you’re a vegetarian, we don’t want you feeling left out or grossed out by all this beef talk.
White Castle actually is now serving Impossible Burgers. If you haven’t tried one yet, you absolutely have to.
They are completely vegetarian-friendly burgers that look, smell and most importantly taste just like real beef. These are undoubtedly the best meat-less burgers around. If you don’t believe us, just try it. When you taste how good it is, you’ll realize why they’re called Impossible.
Kal Penn And John Cho
And what about the actors behind Harold and Kumar? Kal Penn and John Cho have been busy these last 15 years.
John Cho’s acting career has been going strong, as he’s appeared in everything from Star Trek on the big screen to countless television roles.
And as for Kal Penn, he even got into politics. He served for nearly two years in former President Obama’s White House Office of Public Liaison, primarily involved in dealing with Asian American and Pacific Islander communities and the arts community.
Not Too Shabby
You know, for two young stoners that went through way more than anyone else would have for hamburgers, they’ve turned out pretty all right.
They also appeared in two sequels, Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay and A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas.
And while these flicks were also highly (again, ha ha ha) entertaining, it will always be their association with White Castle that put them in our hearts and minds forever, and immortalized them and their beloved burgers to boot.
So while it took these two nearly 90 minutes to get their sliders, you shouldn’t wait that long.
Who knows how much time it will take for the million free burgers to be gone. Then you’ll have to drop seven bucks and change. Oh, the humanity!
Oh, and if you’re located in one of the 37 states without a White Castle… we’re truly sorry. But if you happen to be near one on your next vacation, go out of your way to try it. Your trip there won’t be nearly as difficult as others’ we’ve seen.
