There are many reasons you might decide to go into a Starbucks. You might do it because you need caffeine, or a place to work on something on your laptop. But you could do that at any other coffee place as well.
There's another huge reason why many people choose to get a beverage from Starbucks. It's not necessarily because they think they have the best coffee. For some, it's so they can post a photo of the drinks on Instagram.
If you use Instagram, you've probably seen many photos of people showing off their Starbucks drinks. And the Starbucks Siren logo should always appear in the shot. After all, how else will people know the drink is legit?
But one barista said she likes to take advantage of this Instagram photo trend when she has to deal with annoying customers. When customers rub her the wrong way, she knows something she can do to get them back. Here's her method.
On Reddit, bemyfuse (who has since deleted her account) posted how she gets back at particularly annoying teens. When they order many fraps that will likely be put up on Instagram, she makes the Siren logo disappear. Their photos are now ruined.
Bemyfuse also included a photo of her handiwork. She referred to it as her "petty joy," which certainly applies to this act of defiance. It may be trivial, but it still gets the job done trolling people just the right amount without crossing a line.
Palonirya on Reddit said, "Oh yeah it's so annoying when millennials spend money on drinks and then have the nerve to take a photo of their beverages! Who do they think they are? So annoying!!" (In case you couldn't tell, we're pretty sure this person is being sarcastic.)
DeathTripp135 said, "Oh wow...cause its sooooo hard to peel a sticker off a wet surface... -_- you really got them!" Which is true, they could just peel the sticker off if it happens to be covering the logo. But there's still something about actually forcing people to complete that action that makes this pettiness oh so sweet.
But bemyfuse also had her share of supporters. GummyMangoPanda told Reddit, "I did that during Frappuccino hour the past two years. Told my manager and he laughed and then said, 'Uh I didn't hear that.'" So even store managers are okay with this...even if they may not admit it.
DaBucks is another barista who admitted doing the same thing, but when people order cups of water. "It makes me feel better when some kid gets 12 waters and nothing else while my lobby is filled to the brim with customers who're waiting for drinks they paid for and I still have a line to the door double ringing and double barring. Petty? Sure. But it soothes my baby insanity wolf."
Bemyfuse's tactic is a little different from the other ways that baristas can annoy a customer. Usually it's something like putting the wrong name on the cup. Although that's supposedly just an accident when that happens. Or is it?
This cup seems to indicate that putting a wrong name on a Starbucks cup is, at least sometimes, on purpose. If you're working a long shift serving people coffee, sometimes you might need to do something simply to keep yourself entertained.
So the next time you go to Starbucks or any other coffee place, make sure you're kind to the employees. Treat them well, and cut them some slack. Otherwise, you might become the victim of some extremely petty, barely visible revenge.
