Believe it or not, it's been 13 years since Friends went off the air. And yet, there's still one mystery about the show that has not yet been solved. (And no, it's not the mystery of why they spend so much of their free time dancing by a fountain.)
Fox's tweet sent many other folks on Twitter on a quest for an answer. Perhaps the other six friends read Rachel's 18-page letter (front and back) explaining her feelings about Ross. After all, if it put Ross to sleep, it probably would have made the other four at least a little drowsy.
Someone else thought Rachel was awake because of another big mystery on the show. And that's the question of how they can afford Monica's giant apartment? Of course, true Friends fans know that she can afford the apartment because she's illegally subletting from her grandmother.
However, one theory about the DVD cover was particularly mind-blowing. It comes from Twitter user Phil Dunne, and it will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about Friends. Here's what he had to say.
Dunne continued, saying, "She created a fantasy in her mind and the five other friends characters as a way to escape her spoiled, trapped future life. This cover is her partially waking up from that dream at 5 am on the morning of her wedding day. The whole entire series was her anxiety dream."
Another Twitter user found more evidence that goes with Dunne's theory. For instance, it looks like Rachel might be wearing her wedding dress under the covers. In her high state of anxiety about her future with Barry, did she put on the dress and fall asleep?
Other Twitter users presented theories that are similar, but still a little different. This person suggested that all the friends have died, except for Rachel. Who knew that a fun show like Friends was actually dark and depressing?
And this person suggested that Friends is basically just like The Truman Show, where Rachel is the only actor. But wouldn't Joey, as a fellow actor, notice something was up? Actually, on second thought, he probably wouldn't notice at all.
Someone else offered the simple theory that they all fell asleep watching a movie, except for Rachel. But who gets their friends together for a movie and then watches while sharing a bed? Perhaps the Rachel's-dream-theory really is the best explanation.
Then again, maybe the true clue was in the theme song this whole time. Have you ever felt like your life is stuck in second gear? If so, you too have probably experienced some degree of insomnia. Fortunatley for Rachel, all her friends will be there for her (even if that means sharing her bed).
