While most little girls dream of splendiferous birthday parties complete with pretty pink princesses, one little girl dared to go outside of the box in what is probably the most unconventional and literally best way ever. For real, this imaginative three-year-old is all of our heroes.
When Audrey's mom Rebecca asked her how she wanted to celebrate her third birthday, there was only one theme that came to mind. Poop. Yup, Audrey wanted to have a poop-themed birthday party. Sorry, Cinderella. Audrey would rather go with poop.
At first Rebecca tried to fight her daughter's, er, out-of-the-box idea. “For months, every time we mentioned her party, Audrey requested ‘poop balloons and a poop cake. I tried suggesting other themes, but she always insisted on poop," said Rebecca.
But Audrey would not be dissuaded. "When she first started asking for a poop party, we would try to distract her. We thought for sure she would change her mind. But she was determined that she was going to have a poop party," said Rebecca.
Audrey's poop-stravaganza was held in October in her family's St. Louis home. Audrey entertained her guests while decked out in a crown made of flowers and a party dress decorated with a poop emoji sticker. At the soiree, guests amused themselves with a rousing game of "pin the poop" as well as a poop emoji piñata. No party would be complete without party favors, and the guests all went home with whoopie cushions as party favors in place of the traditional goodie bag.
Audrey loved it. "When she saw me in my poop costume, she started jumping up and down and screaming 'Mommy, you're poop!'" said Rebecca. "To make her that happy was totally worth whatever embarrassment I felt walking around in a poop costume." We wish we loved anything even half as much as this little girl loved her poop-themed birthday party.
Fortunately, the guests all dug the theme as well. According to Rebecca, everyone thought the party was hilarious. “I expected the grandparents to question it, but they all just laughed when I told them,” said Rebecca.
Rebecca says that the poopy party was an embodiment of her daughter's sensibilities. “Audrey is definitely her own person. I hope she always has the confidence she has now. She is so funny and the best big sister," said Rebecca.
Additionally, Rebecca feels that Audrey's party can serve as an inspiration to other parents, even if they don't embrace the poop theme. “I feel like in this time of Facebook and Pinterest, we sometimes get caught up in trying to impress other adults,” said Rebecca. “This party wasn’t for me, it was for Audrey. I love that we will look back at pictures, and it will represent her at 3 ― my funny and quirky little girl.” Aww! Best Mom of the Year Award goes to Rebecca!
Looks like Audrey is giving the girl who had a Costco-themed birthday party a run for her money. Recently, five-year-old Kimberly had a Costco-themed birthday complete with samples. Guests had to flash a membership card to get in, and Kimberly was named the employee of the month. While completely unconventional, it's heartwarming to see parents give their kids what they really want for their birthday parties!
Additionally, two-year-old Grayson in Louisiana was thrown a birthday party themed around local personal injury lawyer Morris Bart. Grayson was fixated with the lawyer's commercials, so his parents planned him a party with a cake featuring Bart's image. Hey, sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants and it's super cool that these parents are indulging in their kids' off-the-wall sensibilities!
It's six months after the party and Audrey still has scatological sensibilities. One day she might grow out of it, but for now Rebecca says she's still obsessed with poop. "We're hoping we can show the pictures at her graduation from medical school one day!" Rebecca said.
