Let’s talk about infidelity, shall we? Did you know that 57 percent of men admit to committing infidelity at some point in their lives? Also, 74 percent of men admit that they would have an affair if they knew they wouldn’t get caught. Well, that is comforting.
So if men want to have an affair and sleep with other people, why don’t they they just leave their partners? According to a recent article in Today, "Men don't leave. They just want it all." In the article, several women who have had relationships with married men opened up about why they think men never leave their wives.
“I wasted five years on a man who kept telling me that ‘when the time was right’ he would leave his wife. His wife found out about us and moved out. But in the end he wanted the stable life he had. I was just something new.
He talked his wife into moving back in with him. And then he had the nerve to tell me things could go back to normal with us! Men don't leave. They just want it all. Quit wasting your time and life on someone who can't be the man you want.”
And yes, some men do leave. Some move on with their new partner, but the reality is that most men don’t. They stay where they are and get to have their cake and eat it too. Here are some reasons why men don’t leave.
He has known his wife for a long time. She knows him for who he really is, so he can be himself around her. A wife has seen the good, the bad and the ugly and she still loves and accepts him. With her, he is comfortable, so why would he want to give that up?
"Why would he leave his wife and kids?" says David Wygant from Your Tango. Wygant explains that men love that after they “spend time” with their girlfriends, they then get to come back home and play with the kids. The wife is taking care of the house, making sure the kids are fed, and he gets to go off and do his thing. "It's the ideal situation for a guy."
Many times, the man doesn’t want out of his marriage, he just wants a little vacation. He doesn’t cheat with the intent to leave his family behind. He looks at it as something much less serious. It’s a little break from his marriage. No big deal right?
And some men want to keep it traditional and don’t want to do anything to rock the boat. They stay with their wives so their children can grow up in a “traditional household."
Look, cheaters live in a reality that does not exist. They can justify their bad behavior saying things like, "I'm not doing anything that most of my buddies don't do," or "It's a man's biological imperative to have sex with as many women as he can. Why should I be any different?" as Psychology Today explains.
So after reading this article do you ladies want to crawl in a hole and never get married and die alone? Yeah, me too. Look, not all men are bad. Some of them are horrible! I’m kidding. Some of them are wonderful. You just have to find them.
But really, how can we avoid infidelity? Communication between a couple is key. An open and honest dialogue can save a marriage. Explosive fights, passive aggressive behaviors and holding things in are all a recipe for disaster. Also, marry a nice man who won’t cheat on you and find justifications as to why it’s okay. That works too.
