Yeah, you might make the argument that The Shining is Stephen King's finest accomplishment as a writer and normally I wouldn't disagree with you. But that all goes out the window once you realize that Jessica, my witch of an ex-girlfriend considers it her favorite book, so it goes right to the bottom of the list.
This book reminds me of the time my English teacher told me I wouldn't amount to anything. She kept telling me that teaching me was "misery." I never really understood what she meant by that and I guess I still don't. Come to think of it, she kinda looked like Kathy Bates so maybe that's why I'm thinking of her?
Guys, it's spelled "cemetery." I honestly couldn't even take this one seriously after I saw that mistake. I'm not being pedantic, all they had to do was a Google search or check a dictionary. I mean, come on.
Not sure why Stephen King decided to novelize the brilliant De Palma film but the 70s were a weird time I guess. Maybe he was hard up for money? I do really like that movie, though and I got to second base with a girl I was dating in high school while watching it for the first time, so it makes the list.
You know what? After reading the title of this one, I realized that I really did like Sabrina the Teenage Witch a lot. That was a great show. I wonder what the cast is up to these days? Only 90s kids will remember, right?
An unadulterated masterpiece, The Stand still remains extraordinarily relevant in a world in which now more than ever, battle lines are being drawn across the country, politically and morally. King's tale of good versus evil amidst the apocalypse is a chilling and seemingly prescient reminder of the potential collapse of society in an era of increasing social tension.
While not a Stephen King novel, Richard Bachman is in rare form during The Running Man, weaving together a dystopian novel which rings especially true even now during this era of mass consumerism and reality TV. It's really quite a piece of work with an explosive ending that's very thought provoking. King would do well to gain some tips from Bachman.
