You definitely know who this guy is. Jim Carrey's been one of our favorite funny men since the '80s. Dumb and Dumber, Bruce Almighty, The Mask, How the Grinch Stole Christmas - he's got an endless list of classic movies that would never have been the same without him.
Jim Carrey married actress Melissa Womer in 1987, and the pair later split in 1995. Their daughter, Jane Erin Carrey, was born in 1987, and is 30-years-old. Can you imagine growing up with Jim Carrey as your dad? We're sure there was a lot of laughter.
Jane Carrey was a frequent guest on red carpets with her dad. "It was definitely fun growing up with having him as a father," she said in an interview. "[H]e’s not the most extravagant celebrity, so it was fairly normal growing up, fairly."
"The last name definitely helps and hurts," explained Jane of how it feels to cash in on the family name. "I feel like there's kind of this pressure to maybe be better, because if I make it somewhere, I run the risk of people saying, 'Oh you only got there because of this.'" Baby Jane looks a little freaked out in this picture. Don't worry, Jane, he's not wearing The Mask.
Jane, all grown up, maintains a close relationship with her father. The two still attend red carpet events together, and look like they have a blast doing it. Here they can be seen attending the premiere of Horton Hears a Who, where Jim Carrey did the voice acting for Horton.
In 2012, Jane Carrey auditioned to be on American Idol. She lives in Los Angeles, and auditioned in San Diego where the USS Midway had been specially set up for the show. While on the show, she said she didn't want to receive any special treatment because of her name.
You can watch her audition here. "I am a mom first, and a waitress on and off for like six years, probably. And a musician," she begins in her audition tape. "My dad is Jim Carrey," she then says in the interview. "I think maybe that's why I'm here, to find my place in the world." She talks about growing up with the name attached to her identity.
"Everyone growing up has their issue with identity and trying to find themselves. It is difficult kind of growing up in the shadow of something and trying to find your place in the world - underneath this huge shadow," she goes on to explain. She sang "Something To Talk About," and got voted through to the next round.
Jane Carrey did get the ticket to Hollywood, but she was cut from the show in later rounds. Even before her appearance on American Idol, though, she was in her own band - The Jane Carrey Band. Some of the songs are posted on Youtube.
Jane Carrey has an undeniably good singing voice. And in her video where she sings "Simple Beauty," some interesting creative choices were made. Like her, walking through a forest, being inexplicably followed by scary tree people. We're not exactly sure what's happening, but we definitely do recommend a watch.
Jane Carrey was married in 2009 to Alex Santana, singer in the rock band Blood Money. The two were married just shy of two years when they split after "irreconcilable differences." However, the two had a son together, Jackson Riley.
Jim Carrey was very excited about the arrival of his grandson. He was 49-years-old when Jackson was born in 2010. "Jackson Riley Santana, My Grandson, Born today! This is what 7lbs.11oz. of California dynamite looks like!" he wrote on Twitter. "Jane is going to be a great mom."
Just you every day father daughter walk. The two enjoy their bonding time on the set of Burt Wonderstone in 2012, right around the time that Jane Carrey was receiving a lot of buzz for her appearance on American Idol. Talk about an interesting "Bring Your Kid to Work" day.
Even though she is focusing on being a mom, Jane Carrey still sings from time to time. She recorded two songs for the soundtrack of of Dumb And Dumber To, the sequelher father starred in. He said he was thrilled she could show off her talent with the music.
"They're beautiful. It's all my talent, really. We sang together in the car a lot. But one day I heard her and I was like, 'Damn!" Jim Carrey joked. Yep, that's definitely Jim Carrey's daughter, with their same bright and infectious smiles. We hope to hear more of her music, but for now we're satisfied with her tree monster video.
