Taylor Swift has been a major star for years, but she became huger than ever with the release of her album 1989. During her career, her persona has been that of a sweet, young lady calling out the boyfriends (and others) who have done her wrong. Taylor's on the side of good, right?
In the song, Taylor gets a phone call. She answers it and says, "I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, 'cause she's dead." And the images in the video seems to confirm that the old Taylor is no more.
Clearly, Taylor Swift is attempting to give her image a bit of a makeover. But was it just for "Look What You Made Me Do," or would she continue to shake things up? That was the question as she released the album's second single, "...Ready For It?"
On October 23, Taylor released the video for "...Ready For It?" Okay, actually, she didn't release the full video, but a short teaser trailer for the video. Releasing a video trailer may seem silly, but one part has definitely generated its share of buzz.
In one part of the teaser clip, you see this. Upon first glance, you might think Taylor is posing completely naked. But upon closer inspection, it's clear that she's merely wearing a nude-colored bodysuit.
However, it appears that some people didn't look that closely at the clip at all. Twitter reacted to the video as if Taylor Swift was, in fact, fully naked. And after seeing it, they just couldn't handle it.
This person said a nude Taylor is not what they expected from this current era. But instead of getting all bent out of shape, it might be best to settle down. In other words, just shake it off, shake it off.
In tweet after tweet, people kept insisting that Taylor really was showing everything. In that respect, the video teaser was doing its job to generate publicity. But whether this is the publicity that she wanted isn't quite clear.
This person even said that, in the video, Taylor "pulls a Kardashian" by being naked. This is despite the fact that many non-Kardashians have also been naked. And also despite the fact that Taylor Swift is not actually naked.
This person even said that, because Taylor Swift is nude, she's burning her tickets for Taylor's Reputation tour. Which seems like a silly choice, because she could probably sell the tickets and get a lot of money. And because of the whole "Taylor Swift isn't actually naked" thing.
Fortunately, there were also some sensible people on Twitter. A few people actually know how to recognize a body suit when they see one. But the few people bringing facts and reason to the conversation probably weren't quite enough to make people realize the truth.
In the end, Taylor is just wearing a body suit, which is still a bold statement on its own. As this person pointed out, Taylor Swift seems to be merely indicating she's not ashamed of her body, which is a good thing. So perhaps that's the thing that should be focused on, instead of freaking out about the possibility that she's not wearing any clothes.
